I am looking for information on the Catholic parishes in the Marienweiher area of Bavaria. My Schramm great-great-grandparents were from Kulmbach and Weidmes, two towns near Marienweiher.
I have found records of their families on the Family Search site, within "Germany Births and Baptisms, 1558 - 1898" and "Germany Deaths and Burials".
The collection for Marienweiher is titled "pforrbucher abschrift" which translates to "parish register copy". It was transcribed in 1932. The description of these records on the Family Search site doesn't provide any additional information.
Is anyone familiar with the set of records for Marienweiher? I am trying to figure out where to find the original records, so that I could see names of godparents and witnesses at weddings. I can't tell if the events took place at the Cathedral in Marienweiher or at the churches of the reported towns (e.g. Hohenberg and Weidmes). Did the church in Marienweiher have some sort of administrative function for the towns whose records are in the collection, so that records for all local churches were held at Marienweiher?
I am also trying to understand the numbering system that appears in the transcription. There are numbers next to some of the names in the records. My g-g-grandmother Katherina Schramm has the number "31" next to her name in a birth record and so does her sister-in-law; both women from Hohenberg. But a death record for another relative from that town gives him an assigned code of "71". So it doesn't seem like the number is related to the town or the family. Has anybody come across this, for either these Marienweiher records or those of another town? Couldn't find a legend in the document to figure out what these numbers signify.
Thank you!!
