I've been working on my direct line and have hit a brick wall and am looking for insight on any avenues I have not thought about etc.
Here are the facts:
George Edward Hager (Born Abt 1835, Germany)
- worked the on coal barges from Hunters Point (Long Island City, NY) up the Hudson River and beyond Sing Sing Prison
Catherine (Frishowr or Freshower) Hager (Born Abt 1843, Germany)
- Arrival 1852, per 1900 Census
After 1876, George is no longer listed in any city directories and Catherine is listed as Hager, Catherine wid. George.
They had three children: Francis (F), Edward(M), Charles(M) all born New York. In the 1880, and 1900 census, the Children are are listed with Catherine and she is listed as widowed. Abt. 1900, Catherine moved from New York to New Jersey to live with her son Charles.
Here's my wishlist:
- Locate any immigration/naturalization for Catherine
- Locate a actual marriage date for them
- Confirm that their son Edward died in accident on the Hudson on one of the barges Abt 1910.
Any thoughts on where to else look or other paths to take are welcomed!
